A year ago I was suffering hip and back pain that was so debilitating I had to forgo my beloved morning walks. Two epidurals had not helped. Depressed and defeated, I told myself: ‘You are eighty-four. This is how it is and the way it will be.’
Then my daughter heard about Sherry Brourman’s good work. I saw Sherry and swiftly regained confidence in my body as she worked with me to help strengthen my core and my confidence that I could get better-and I did.
In the past year I have not only resumed my morning walks, but danced happily on several occasions. Sherry has healing power because she is tuned in at a deep level to every person with whom she works. She varies every class exercise with the needs of different individuals. She is a believer in working around what hurts and relies on gentle careful strengthening. She coaxes constructive change from painful frozen resistance. In addition to her careful attention to what the problems are, her warm individualized approach assures that she appreciates you as a whole person and brings ideas to her work that help one get in touch with optimism, generosity, kindness and inner peace. I am very grateful to have had her help in strengthening my inner core.
Thank you so much for writing “Walk Yourself Well”. I’ve been trying to correct the way I walk for years and I’m glad I found your book. I’ve been told that I walk like a robot and I’ve been teased so much about that. Thank you again for writing this unique book!
Just wanted to let you know that your book saved my trip to New York last week. I have been reading the book thoroughly and took it to my Physical Therapist here in Boulder yesterday and she tested me on all the questions. So we are working our way through the exercises and I am quite excited. I am hopeful that I will keep improving and would not hesitate to make the trip to L.A. for your assistance if I feel I need it! Thanks again, I will pursue the program with enthusiasm!
I wanted to just thank you for all your healing powers! Every time I do a yoga pose that stretches my arms up and over, or balancing on my arms in some way, I marvel at your work. Thank you for taking me step by step through the healing of my shoulder. You are a wonderful healer, Sherry, and I am so grateful to have had the good fortune to spend that time with you.
many blessings & much love,
Hi Dr. Brourman,
I just completed my Master’s Thesis on improving walking gait and wanted to thank you for your ideas presented in your book Walk Yourself Well. I did a case study on two individuals and gave them visual feedback from our Biomechanics equipment (force plate, video analysis) and also used verbal feedback to improve their movements. I found pointers from you book such as keeping knees unlocked and bodyweight “centered” were strong contributors to their pain reduction. Both participants reduced their pain from a “5” on a 1-10 scale to around a 1 following four weeks. Again just wanted to say thanks, and I think your ideas could change many individuals lives. I wish more people knew about this book and that they have the power to change the walk to reduce pain.
I honestly think Sherry Brourman is the best kept secret in the world of LA fitness. Her experience as a therapist and sheer tenderness make her ideal for anyone looking to nurse an injury, improve their posture, or just reinforce the basics of their practice.
Just a note to let you know that Guillo said his arm feels GREAT !!! Zero pain since you treated him. No pain when moving, working or sleeping. He said he can do things he couldn’t do before like putting his hands on his hips, raising both arms to wash his hair or reaching to put on his left sock. He also said that the happy face stickers worked. All day long, he would see the sticker and bring his shoulder down.
He’s a happy camper this morning.
Thank you so much
I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed our session together. As I said, every time I am with a true teacher of Yoga or related areas, I learn how much I really don’t know. My foot and knee were not even the reason for my first session, and you spotted right away that “walking” was perhaps the biggest issue of all. I am excited at the prospect of the workshop. I would like very much to schedule another session.Regards,
I got a lot of knowledge from you on yoga works teacher training last January and I am sure would learn more next week. Since I have had 7 knee surgeries and a bad back I am a trainer, if you see me you remember me, since then I couldn’t stop praising you the whole time that you were teaching us at yoga works .
May you be blessed at all times.
I did your foot stretch with the yoga brick three times and the jam in the ankle is gone! Yippy! It’s so stupid because I couldn’t get the calf to stretch becasue of the jam in front and I went to a rolfer/ acupunturist and another Pilates instructor and couldn’t get any help for six months. Feels totally different now –
As you know I have benefited greatly from our walking therapy sessions, with continuing learning and results. You have developed such a powerful system (this opinion from a real skeptic!). I had wanted to participate in your study, in part because I would like to support your efforts to document outcomes and make your understanding and protocols more widely available. I cam to you with a history of back spasms while returning to dance in my 50s. I have taken on ballet as my “middle-aged project.” Now at 56, I take 3-5 classes per week and am basically pain free. I am often grateful for your insight and instruction, and often amazed at the expanding boundaries of what I can do physically. Yoga, of course, helps.
All the best to you, as always.
I attended one of your original courses–Gait For Pain Relief– and found it very helpful from many different angles, both professional and personal. I also, following that course referred a person to you, for whom that referral was a reversal of a very negative direction physically, and, of course, therefor in every other way as well. She continues to do well and instead of looking dimmer and dimmer each time I saw
her (her precious path), she looks brighter and brighter– aka more and more functional.

I’d consider a workshop if you’re in the area again. It sounds like a wonderful experience. My best to you—
Hey there, Sherry
I’m feeling a little better every day. Ooh, and I’m having epiphanies about how I create tension in my body, mind and spirit, and I’m starting to let it go. It’s wonderful. Thank you for your encouragement, compassion and support. You’re amazing.
Dear Sherry Brourman,
Sometime ago I took some private classes with you. I want to thank you again for the change your exercises have made in my feet, particularly the right one. Big changes from little movements.
I would like to thank you again for all of your contributions to this year’s class. I think your information has made me a better teacher since I met you last November. I am very grateful.
My very best to you,
I want to thank you for this weekend at LMU; for sharing so much with us. You are such an incredible educator, wealth of knowledge, and sweet person. I have learned so much from you and am craving more.

I just wanted to thank you for a great FINAL weekend of Yoga Therapy I. I always find your material and delivery to be so helpful. I learned a ton and am grateful to have had you as an instructor along the path. Take care and I’ll see you sometime soon I am sure.
Sherry Brourman was really nice, she taught us a lot, I never knew how to walk that much when she was telling me how, I got it and now I’ve been doing it a lot and I enjoyed her a lot and the way to sit down I like it.

When we had the guest Sherry Brourman, I felt good and comfortable because she actually took time and showed us the proper way of walking and it was a good experience because even though it feels kind of weird walking or doing step by step because it does look kind of funny, in the end it isn’t that hard to do. With this experience I realize that it is something I might be able to do on a daily basis. I really enjoyed that experience with her.

When Sherry Brourman went and showed us how to walk correctly, it was really run and useful. I didn’t even know there was a right way to walk.

We had a guest speaker come to the class and talk to us about posture. Her name was Sherry Brourman. I really learned something about posture that day. Posture is really important. Without proper posture, we can do some great damage to our bodies. She taught us some techniques on how to have good posture while sitting as well as walking. It was a funny day.

Oh my God!! I loved the class with Sherry, it was the most fun experience I’ve ever had. I liked her class because until now I continue to follow her steps and I feel taller and much better with my spine.

Hi Sherry! I had the opportunity to briefly meet with you last Wed. and wanted to comment about Fawntice and your program. I found Fawntice to be a professional through and through. Not only am I impressed with th depth of her knowledge of yoga, the different body parts and the effect each stance has on the body, she also has this uncanny way of putting you at ease and making you feel that everythig in this topsy-turvy world of ours will be ok. I would like to extend my thanks to you for your leadership in setting up programs such as this and for having the mental, emotional and spiritual wherewithal to spot a talent like her and place her in your staff.
Just a note to let you know that Guillo said his arm feels GREAT!! Zero pain since you treated him and all comfy in yoga class. No pain when working, moving or sleeping. He said he can do things he couldn’t do before like putting his hands on his hips, raising both arms to wash his hair or reaching to put on his left sock. He also said that the happy face stickers everywhere worked great. All day long he would see the stickers and bring his shoulder down.
Thank you SO much!
I have had big toe pain for almost five years. I’ve seen at least a dozen podiatrists and orthopedists and I have accumulated at least that many pairs of orthotics, not to mention felt pads and over the counter orthotics. I was told that I had arthritis, hallux limitus, and other foot ailments, Some doctors recommended surgery while others were perplexed. There was no indication on my xrays or MRI’s to indicate that surgery would help me. At some point, my right big toe began hurting me in exactly the same place as the left toe. I knew then that surgery wasn’t the answer. I was clearly doing something to aggravate BOTH big toes. After browsing the internet and doing my own research, I came upon Sherry Brourman’s website. I was astonished to learn that foot pain might be caused by something other than my foot. Who would have thought? I purchased her book and made an appointment to see her. I gained more knowledge and practical information from just a few sessions with Sherry than I had in the past five years consulting with doctors! She has corrected my gait and I am seeing results that are encouraging me to continue my exercises and gait corrections. I’m not completely pain free, but I have to undo years of walking errors and muscle weakness. That will take time but I am finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks, Sherry!!! I wish I would have met you sooner!!
